Under the direction of Mrs. Lauren Bretzger, Physical Education/Health courses at DMA for early childhood, elementary, and middle school students are designed to promote physical fitness, healthy habits, and overall well-being. Students will develop basic motor skills, coordination, and teamwork through a variety of physical activities and sports, while also learning the importance of regular exercise for maintaining a healthy body.
The health component of the course will focus on teaching students about nutrition, hygiene, personal safety, and the benefits of making healthy lifestyle choices. Students will also learn how to set personal fitness goals, practice good sportsmanship, and understand the role of physical activity in mental and emotional health. The course aims to empower students to lead active, healthy lives both in and out of school.
Bio: I have been a Physical Education teacher for 14 years and have always believed that Physical Education is an integral part of the total educational program for each student in the school. I was in public school for 11 years, and this will be my 3rd year at DMA.
I am passionate about fostering a love for movement, health, and fitness in students of all ages. My mission is to create a positive, engaging environment where students can develop not only their physical skills but also a lifelong appreciation for an active lifestyle.
On a more personal note, I have 2 children that attend Divine Mercy Academy (ages 5 and 7) and have been married for 10 years. We love being outdoors, playing softball, and spending time with family and friends.
Hometown: Rockaway, NJ
I like working at the Academy because…
I love working at Divine Mercy Academy because it truly feels like family. The smaller, supportive community fosters strong relationships, and the Catholic values we share create a meaningful environment where we can grow together in faith, knowledge, and movement. It's rewarding to be part of a place where everyone cares for one another and works toward a common purpose.
Teaching Philosophy: In physical education, my ultimate goal is to inspire students to adopt lifelong habits that promote physical and mental well-being. I encourage students to view physical activity as a source of enjoyment, stress relief, and personal growth rather than just a requirement or competition. Through a variety of activities—ranging from team sports to individual fitness challenges to mindfulness practices—I work to show students that health and wellness can be fun and fulfilling at any stage of life.
