Bio: Greetings! My name is Ms. Taylor Starks, and I am the Middle School English/Language Arts teacher. I completed my Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Psychology at Rutgers University and am currently on track to receive my teaching certification through Brookdale Community.
Hometown: Rockaway, New Jersey
I like working at the Academy because… As a product of Catholic school education, I deeply understand the value it brings to those who experience it. The culture at Divine Mercy Academy truly embodies the moral and ethical values at the heart of our faith. There is a strong sense of community, not only among students, faculty, and staff, but also with the broader community. Teachers are given the autonomy to create meaningful lessons that foster both academic success and spiritual growth within our student body. By emphasizing the partnership between faith and academics, students learn to recognize the vital role faith plays in laying the foundation for academic success. As they continue to grow within the Divine Mercy community, they are equipped not only with knowledge but also with the values and skills needed to navigate life’s challenges with integrity, compassion, and confidence.
Teaching Philosophy: Drawing from my background in psychology, I believe that nurturing the whole child—intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually—is essential to their growth and learning. The most important aspect of a child’s education is fostering a strong sense of self-belief. With this, students are able to overcome challenges, whether it’s tackling a difficult assignment or mastering a new learning concept. I want children to always know that they can face difficult tasks head-on and, with the right mindset and support from God and others, nothing is impossible.
Fun Facts about me: I have a goal of visiting every National Park in the U.S.! I haven’t made it to any yet, but I’m excited to start. If anyone has recommendations for where I should go first, I’d love to hear them!
When I’m not in the classroom you will find me… by any body of water surrounded by family and friends.
Ask me about… whether Central Jersey is a real thing—it's a debate that never gets old!
My Personal Motto… Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths (Proverbs 3: 5-6).
